New Scout and Guide centre

After many years of hard work and fundraising, the Barnt Green Scout and Guide Centre is finally open for business – and residents can see it for themselves at the official opening on Saturday May 12.

Visitors can drop in any time between 2pm and 4pm, with the official opening ceremony at 3pm. This will be performed by Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham, who played a large part in the fundraising.

In the eight years since the old Scout HQ was destroyed by fire, Barnt Green Scout and Guide Field Trust has been hard at work obtaining finances for a brand new building. Many charitable trusts have supported the project, as well as village traders, local people and former Barnt Green Scouts and Guides.

Many local contractors have supported the Trust and have completed a building to be proud of. Parents and friends also gave their time to tasks such as wall painting, loft insulation and fixing ceiling boards.

Each weekday evening the Centre is occupied by Scout and Guide Units, but it is also available for hire by the local community from 9am to 4.30pm daily – facilities include a large hall with wooden sprung floor,  a meeting room that will house 20 people, and a catering kitchen.

If you would like to hire the Centre, call 0121 445 6979.
