Now it’s praise in the park

The Alvechurch Big Lunch is growing as more groups come up with ideas for the May Bank Holiday bash, including a “songs of praise”.

As The Village went to press, an open meeting was being held for anyone wanting to get involved – with plans already in progress for some communal hymn singing.

Churches Together in Alvechurch and Rowney Green, Alvechurch Community Choir and The Lounge are joining forces to present their version of Songs of Praise at The Big Lunch at The Meadows on May 26.

Spokeswoman Sue Phillips said there were three ways villagers could join in: “Let us know your favourite hymn. Put the title, along with your preferred tune if you like, on a piece of paper in the box in The Lounge by the end of April.

“If you’d be willing to give a short interview live at the event, add your name and contact details.

“Come to the rehearsal at Alvechurch Baptist Church hall on Sunday May 19 at 4.30pm where we will rehearse the top three favourite hymns.

“Come the Meadows with your picnic on May 26, from 12noon to 5pm.”
