Operation Cofton relaunched

Police have relaunched Operation Cofton after a spate of burglaries in Barnt Green and Cofton Hackett.

Part of the operation involves working closely with police in Birmingham to crack down on offenders crossing the border into this area.

Operation Cofton was first launched in May when it led to a number of arrests, but the number of burglaries has once again increased.

On October 17 a house in Bittell Road and another in Hewell Lane, Barnt Green, were burgled, with laptops, cash, jewellery and an Aston Villa season ticket – together worth thousands of pounds – being stolen.

In Alvechurch a house was burgled in Willow Brook Road between October 13-17 when cash, a TV and an Audi A4 were stolen.

PC Jayne Willetts said: “High visibility patrols by police and community support officers are being increased and crime prevention leaflets are being delivered to homes.

“We are also using Automatic Number Plate technology to stop vehicles containing known offenders.”
