Parish plans next move in fight to save Barnt Green fields

Barnt Green Parish Council is to hold a special meeting on Monday to discuss its next move after outline planing permission was granted to bulldoze the fields behind the Barnt Green Inn.

Around 200 villagers attended the Bromsgrove planning committee meeting where councillors decided to give Banner Homes the go-ahead for 88 new homes on the site beside Fiery Hill Road.

The parish council says the decision flies in the face of public feelings because it will change forever the character of Barnt Green.

Parish clerk Roger Westbury told The Village a members-only meeting was being held on Monday to decide on the council’s response.

One option was to seek a judicial review of the decision, he explained, but this would be very expensive and the council would need financial backing from villagers.

The parish has been talking to a newly formed Barnt Green residents association to explore any ways of pursuing this route jointly.

Failing that, the parish will be left with the task of fighting over the design and density of the new development to try to get the best for the village on a site it regards as highly sensitive and visible.
