Parish seeks towpath talks

Posted on February 22 2011 at 12:11:01

Alvechurch Parish Council is planning to “open a dialogue” with British Waterways over the state of the canal towpath through the area.

The Worcester & Birmingham Canal runs the length of the parish from Wast Hill Tunnel in the north to Shortwood Tunnel in the south and is a considerable amenity to villagers.

But parish chairman John Cypher told colleagues he and Coun Andy Humphries had taken a walk along the towpath and it was in need of improvements and significantly more moorings for passing boaters so they could “enjoy Alvechurch and do business and contribute to the village”.

Meanwhile, the monthly parish council meeting also heard that work on drainage at The Meadows and at Hopwood playing fields would soon get under way.
