Parish ‘yes’ to bus shelter ideas

Posted on June 27 2016 at 10:23:26

Mural design

Three murals are to be installed in a village bus shelter with designs created by local children.

They are being painted on panels by youngsters at The Lounge youth project in Alvechurch and these will then be put on the walls of the shelter in front of The Red Lion pub.

The designs were approved by parish councillors at their monthly meeting. The council is paying for the initiative using 106 money, paid by housing developers to help communities where they are allowed to build.

The idea of a mural by local youngsters was first used on the bus shelter outside the Co-op in Alvechurch, where the one installed in 2008 is still seen daily by bus travellers.

Before that, the bus shelter was frequently vandalised. The three new murals have been created on Tuesday evenings at sessions being run by The Lounge.

One of the designs (above) is in memory of Finlay Church and shows some of the fundraising efforts that have been held over the years.

* The Lounge is launching the Lounge Lottery, with the first draw taking place at the end of July.

The idea is that villagers set up a monthly standing order of £5, with half invested into the Lounge and the remainder split between 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes.

The prize fund will depend on the number of participants. Anyone interested should email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
