Parking deal on table

Posted on September 20 2008 at 12:01:26

As the October deadline neared, a deal to save 50 free parking spaces in the centre of Alvechurch was still to be sealed.

A meeting is being organised this month between the parish council, Bromsgrove District Council and the car park owners, Alvechurch Sports and Social Club, to finalise details.

It is believed that a Bromsgrove pressure group fighting to have free elderly parking reinstated in the town is asking why money should be spent on parking in the villages.

But district council leader Roger Hollingworth told Alvechurch Neighbourhood Group the council had a policy of not charging for parking outside the town, adding: “If you take the car park away from Alvechurch, the village will die.”
