Lickey Playgroup

Two events held to celebrate the 25th birthday of a village playgroup proved a massive success and raised hundreds of pounds.

Lickey End Playgroup, based at Lickey End Methodist Church in Alcester Road, held a toddlerthon walk and a fun family disco to mark the group’s silver jubilee. The two events have so far raised more than £1,500, which will go towards new toys and an outdoor classroom and play area.

The toddlerthon was due to be held at Lickey End park, but strong winds and torrential rain put the event in jeopardy. The day was saved when Lickey End and District Workmen’s Club offered its function room free of charge so the event could go ahead, with 45 children walking laps around the room.

Kindhearted Phil from D’Enter-tainment UK also provided an excellent free disco for the youngsters.

Colin Measham, Park Officer from Bromsgrove District Council, attended the event and provided high visibility vests, tape to mark out the course, bags and flags. Each child who completed the event was awarded a certificate and medal.

The birthday disco was also held at the Workmen’s Club, with almost 200 adults and children in attendance. Deep Slumber Co donated a cheque which covered the cost of the disco, and top raffle prizes were given by Aston Villa FC, Suyo Hair in Harborne, Chapters and Artrix.

Through a raffle, party and Irish Bingo game, more than £800 was raised.
