Phoenix rises at Hopwood rendering plant

Posted on June 28 2015 at 10:46:16

The prospect of large-scale rendering of animal parts yards from Hopwood homes is back on the agenda, but operations are unlikely to start “for some time”.

The controversial rendering plant at Mayfield Farm had its permit suspended in April last year, according to Worcestershire Regulatory Services (WRS).

This was shortly after The Village reported that the site was gearing up for full production of an operation permitted to render lamb and poultry “by-products” from 6am-11pm every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays.

WRS says half of the business has since been acquired by leading by-products rendering company Leo Group and a new enterprise called Phoenix By-products has taken over the permit.

Regulators had met with Phoenix but “production is unlikely to take place for some time due to the amount of recommissioning work necessary on site”.
