Winner and runners up

With plans for the Alvechurch Picnic in the Park in full swing, children from Crown Meadow First School & Nursery were asked once again to come up with a logo for the event.

This time the competition had the theme of “Ugly Bug Ball”, and the judges selected Hannah Dale’s entry (below) to be used in all event publicity and programmes.

Emma Cross and Lottie Reeves were chosen as runners-up.

The Picnic in the Park takes place in The Meadows, Alvechurch, on Sunday May 4. The day begins with a Fun Dog Show at 11am before the formal opening with a Marching Band procession at 12noon, and will feature a series of performances from local groups.

There’s also the legendary Panto Horse Derby, with even more entrants this year – will the Cricket Club be able to defend its title?

There will be stalls all around The Meadows with local organisations and small businesses showcasing their services, running activities and selling a range of items, while refreshments will include delicious cakes, savouries, treats and a pig roast.

The afternoon will close with music from local skiffle band The 6-5 Specials, before the evening festivities at the Cricket Club. Entertainment will include music from 11-piece group The Life’s a Picnic Blues Band, and a bar with real ale.

Alvechurch residents are invited to come along, bring a picnic, enjoy the entertainment, visit the stalls, spend time with old friends and new and enjoy the local community.
