As the final preparations for this year’s Alvechurch Picnic in the Park get under way, the event now has its official logo, chosen from entries into the annual competition.

The organisers were delighted by the number and quality of submissions. The winning design was created by eight-year-old Lyla Breeze (right), who will help declare the Picnic open on Sunday May 27 in The Meadows.

The Picnic will see a repeat of the successful Go-Kart Challenge, with the winner receiving the prestigious Challenge Cup – and there’s also a category the best designed/dressed Go-Kart.

Head over to http://www.alvechurchpicnic.org for more details, the rules and online entry form.

Another first for the Picnic this year is a static display of Birds of Prey. Children will be able to have their photos taken for a small fee which goes to the birds’ welfare and upkeep.

Alvechurch’s new deli, Gin and Pickles, will be offering bespoke picnic hampers. Find them on The Square to choose your picnic from a range of savoury and sweet treats, drinks and fresh deli produce.

They will make your hamper up ready to collect on the morning of the picnic.

There are still a couple of daytime entertainment slots available so if you would like to get involved, please email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) as soon as possible.

If you haven’t been to the Picnic before then why not come along from 11am for the Dog Show; 12 noon kicks off an afternoon of entertainment and activities until 5pm when you can head over to the Cricket Club for more live music, karaoke and family fun.

For more details see the Picnic website, or Facebook page.

Below: The second and third-placed entries by Winnie, aged 9, and Jessica, aged 7.
