Positive talks on teen centre

Posted on September 22 2009 at 3:09:15

The Alvechurch mums hoping to establish a permanent meeting place for village teenagers held a “very positive” meeting with Bromsgrove District Council representatives.

It was agreed there was a “definite” need for a teenage youth venue and that the council would support the initiative in producing a five-year plan to be presented this month to the Alvechurch & Beoley Neighbourhood Partnership.

Venues were discussed, with the possibility that the Parish Rooms in School Lane could be available and refurbished for the purpose.

The group heard about existing teenage drop-in centres in Worcestershire: in Bewdley, Tenbury Wells, Droitwich and in Charford, Bromsgrove. They decided to visit those in Charford and Tenbury to get a better idea of what is involved in running such a centre.

It was suggested that the Alvechurch centre could operate within the “Bromsgrove Trunk”, which would mean support services would be available from Bromsgrove. Funding applications were discussed and it was agreed several revenue streams would be necessary.
