The four candidates standing in Bromsgrove in the 2005 General Election put forward their ideas and answered the public’s questions (above) in a forum held at Alvechurch Baptist Church the week before Britain went to the polls.

Julie Kirkbride (Con) was returned as MP for Bromsgrove, polling 24,387 votes. David Jones (Lab) came second with 14,307 votes, followed by Susan Haswell (Lib Dem) with 7,197 and Paul Buckingham (UKIP) with1,919. Turnout 67.08%.

Results in the Worcestershire County Council elections:

Alvechurch Division: George Lord (Con) 2,227 – ELECTED; Mary Simones-Jones (Lab) 1,178; Patricia Harrison (Wythall Ratepayers’ & Residents’ Association) 701; Ann Doyle (Ind) 674. Turnout 68.5%.

Beacon Division: Peter McDonald (Lab) 2,548 – ELECTED; Michael Andrews (Con) 2,190; David McGrath (Bromsgrove Independent Group working for Bromsgrove) 661; Brian Bridgewater (Ind) 550; Stephen Peters (UKIP) 359. Turnout 70.4%.

Bromsgrove East: Debbie Nixon (Con) 2,305 –  ELECTED; Malachy Keane (Lib Dem) 1,265;  Judith Marshall (Lab) 1,112; David Pardoe (Bromsgrove Independent Group working for Bromsgrove) 416; Peter Harvey (Green) 225. Turnout 71.7%.
