Raising the pollen count

Barnt Green is embracing an initiative to protect pollinating insects and their habitats.

The parish council is looking at four possible sites around the village after being approached by resident Rachel Banner, whose interest had been sparked by a Worcestershire Pollinators conference.

Parish chairman Robert Cholmondeley said: “We are going to have a go at letting the grass grow, doing some planting and seeing how we get on.”

The first site is likely to be on the spare land at Greenbank in Hewell Road after councillors heard the land was now owned by the Crown so there was little point trying to buy it.
