Sam’s Ironman triumph

Blackwell triathlete Sam Boswell has achieved her dream of qualifying for the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, after winning the UK event to earn her place.

The sports massage therapist, who is self-coached, needed to finish first in her category as the places for the World Championship are so limited.

Consisting of a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run, the Ironman events are considered the toughest one-day races in the world, with the Hawaii contest as the pinnacle of Ironman racing.

“I can’t tell you how hard I have worked for this result, not just on the day but in training too. I had a lot of help from my friend Mike Hazlewood at The Saracen cycling club, and without my sponsorship from Elliott Nash Ltd I probably wouldn’t even have entered,” says Sam, who was cheered on by husband Andy and son Charlie.
