Save our voles

Posted on August 26 2005 at 11:36:38

Bromsgrove District Council has teamed up with Worcestershire Wildlife Trust to protect the UK’s most endangered mammal: the water vole.

Visitors to Lickey Hills Recreational Ground are being encouraged to learn about the creature, often wrongly identified as the brown rat.

Signs providing information have been installed at the park, and visitors are prevented from parking on the banks to ensure burrows are not damaged.

Rachel Kennett, the Council’s Assistant Environmental Strategy Officer, said, “The water vole is recognised as the most threatened mammal in the UK, yet here in Bromsgrove we have a healthy population which we need to look after.”
