Seniors find friendship

Posted on September 30 2019 at 2:49:08

The Friendship Matters group that began at The Lounge in Alvechurch this spring has proved a great success.

Its aim is to help combat isolation and loneliness in seniors and help them meet people and try new activities.

Regular attendee Christine Honor says,  ‘’A wonderful thing happened to me in April. I read in The Village about a new group in the village and began attending. It is a lovely, lively group and now my Mondays are great.’’

The group meets on Mondays between 10am to 2pm, and offers a varied programme.

Events have included visits from the parish council and district councillor, a mindfulness session, live music, musical bingo and decopatch crafts.

Coming soon are visits from the Fire Safety Officer, a colour therapist and an artist, as well as a samba drumming session in November.

Pop into The Lounge to see the monthly programme on the notice board.

Attendance is free for seniors, with subsidised drinks and a lunch available – you can stay for all or just part of the session.

Community Support Worker Rachel is happy to answer any questions.
