Sinfonia’s piano appeal

Posted on March 27 2006 at 8:44:52

Village-based orchestra The Midland Sinfonia is running a Piano Appeal during its current 10th season of concerts.

Based at St Laurence Church, Alvechurch, they need to replace the existing piano, which has given many years of excellent service. Now showing its age, Keith Woolford, Chairman, says the musicians and audience deserve this long overdue update.

“Our concert-goers come to enjoy our programme of concerts, whether here in Alvechurch, at the Artrix or further afield, and we need to ensure we encourage them back again.

“With a varied programme of works, a mix of popular pieces and those less well known, we must ensure standards are maintained. Without question, top of our ‘must have’ list is a replacement piano.”

The Midland Sinfonia wishes to extend their programme to include more works for the piano and this will certainly allow them to do so.

“The board have been very busy behind the scenes and have already raised £7,500 from available grants towards the anticipated £10,000 required.

“We realise that there are many generous people and businesses locally who may wish to support the arts and would welcome all approaches to make pledges, however small, for this exciting project.”
