Successful debut for gospel singers

Posted on October 19 2011 at 2:26:09

The debut gig of the Barnt Green Community Gospel Choir took place at Barnt Green Baptist Church on Bittell Road. The event was very well attended with around 60 people enjoying a performance which demonstrated the choir’s talents and versatility.

The repertoire included familiar pop songs (True Colours, Lean on Me), traditional gospel songs – many sung a capella, others with either guitar or piano accompaniment – and arrangements of more traditional songs of worship.

The performance ended with the audience demanding “more”, and the choir happily obliged with their own unique version of Amazing Grace, a popular choice amongst the choir’s fans who have seen the choir perform at other local functions since its establishment four years ago.

The evening included an interval in which free refreshments were available, provided by the choir and their supporters. The choir has decided that a percentage of the takings will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support.

The group meets on Tuesdays at 7.30pm at Barnt Green Baptist Church and welcomes anyone who has a passion for singing; no experience needed.
