Summer festival season begins!

Alvechurch Village Society, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, is inviting residents from the village and beyond to mark the occasion with a party at Alvechurch Village Hall.

On Wednesday June 26, from 6.30 to 9.30pm, everyone is welcome to enjoy a fun family evening including Morris dancing, storytelling, music from Alvechurch Community Choir, children’s games, indoor curling, a mini quiz and a display of Dellow vintage cars. Light refreshments will be available – and the whole event is free of charge.

*  The 2019 Blackwell Summer Festival takes place on Saturday June 15, from 12noon until 5pm on the field Roff St Catherine’s Road. This year’s theme is Flower Power, so expect to see villagers fully embracing the spirit of the event with costumes and decorated gazebos.

Residents of Blackwell and beyond are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy fun for all ages, music from Blackwell Concert Band and refreshments from Village Vineyards and the WI (there is a charge for these but the rest of the event is completely free).

If you’d like to enter the cake competition, entries based on the Flower Power theme need to be at the tent by 2pm.

*  Blackwell is also hosting its popular Music Festival once again, this year on Saturday September 7 from 12noon to 9pm in the Hunters Hill School grounds. Full details are yet to be announced but there will be plenty of local live acts, food and drink.

*  Glastonbeoley, a charity music festival held in the parish field and village hall at Beoley, is happening again this year and takes place on Saturday June 8 from 12noon to 10pm. As well as live music across two stages, there will be a licensed bar and food outlets.

Tickets cost £8 in advance/£10 on day (over 16s) or £4/£5 (ages 10–15); under-10s go free. Purchase at Courtyard Music, The Village Inn or Vintage Trax. You can see the full programme at
