The end is nigh

Lickey End Parish Council’s end is nigh after a long-running fight for its abolition.

The council has been unable to test its value since a group of “anti-parish council” candidates won control after its formation in 2001.

Central Government has so far blocked abolition, but now the decision can be made locally and residents of Lickey End and south Marlbrook will be consulted in the autumn as to whether or not they want to continue having a parish council.

Charles Bateman, spokesman for the Anti Parish Council Group, said: “This will give the residents the opportunity to get rid of a parish council that few want and one for which no residents other than ‘anti’ were prepared to stand for.”
