After the success of Alvechurch Alight 2005 the organisers are already putting together ideas for next year’s event.

A meeting is to be held in the upstairs room at the Red Lion on December 7 starting at 8pm for anyone who wants to be involved.

The 2005 event has brought praise from many quarters, including the police. Alvechurch Beat manager PC Mark Townsend said: “We thought that this year’s event was a big improvement in terms of anti-social behaviour and we had no significant problems.

“We were grateful to Pete Eacock, of Alvechurch FC, and his team of marshals who did a sterling job on the night. They were highly visible and they marshaled positively and robustly.
“It was a good atmosphere throughout the weekend and everyone of all ages enjoyed themselves.

“Well done to all the committee members for their hard work in putting together a magnificent weekend of fun.”

Annette English (right, in festival T-shirt and face-paint), of the organising committee, said the committee had only been small, including stalwarts Jules Harrison, Dayrell Pelling, Lynda Wolsencroft, David Seeley and Matt McVeigh.

She added: “I would like to make a special mention to Simone’s School of Dance and Bromsgrove’s Samba Band – Someone At The Door. They both gave their services free of charge and helped to make the Saturday night procession the biggest and best yet.”

Annette also gave an “official thanks” to Mike Genders, Pete Austin and Ben Essex-Ross for organising the Battle of the Bands, which had to be cancelled at the last minute.

The full list would fill the rest of this page, but Annette said everyone had been brilliant and anyone who wanted to get involved next year could contact her on 0121 445 0108 or via email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
