Sinfonia concert

February’s appalling weather conditions in Alvechurch almost resulted in the first-ever cancellation for one of the Midland Sinfonia’s concerts.

On the Friday February 9, just 24 hours before the event, heavy snowfalls caused chaos around the area but, incredibly, the snow had practically disappeared within 24 hours and the concert went ahead.

Those who did venture out to St Laurence Church on the Saturday evening were treated to a superb programme of music from the young but well-established professional orchestra.

Popular works by Purcell, Mozart, Britten and Bartok were performed with enthusiasm under the baton of newly- appointed assistant musical director Richard Laing.
