The victorious team

After years of battling in one of the toughest golf competitions in the region, a team from Kings Norton Golf Club, Alvechurch, has finally won the trophy.

The West Midlands League pits teams from across the area against each other over six months, culminating in a knockout stage and final.

In beating Swindon Golf Club in the final, played at Handsworth, Kings Norton took the trophy for the first time since the competition began in 1967. They also avenged defeat by Swindon at the same stage last year, romping home by 3.5 points to 0.5.

In all, 20 golfers represented the team over the course of the competition, with the eight teeing up in the final, including three from the same Lickey family as team captain Mark Birchill was joined by brother Stuart and son Ollie.
