Village school could expand

St Andrew’s First School in Barnt Green has been asked to consider expanding, the village’s parish councillors heard.

Worcestershire’s education authority wants St Andrew’s to increase its intake of pupils from 45 to 60 per year – meaning the school would adopt a two-form entry system and would need two additional classrooms to be built.

Parish chairman Robert Cholmondeley reported that the change is not mandatory, but that the Diocese of Birmingham – which oversees church schools – has said it “can live with” the expansion.

It is likely that a feasibility study and formal consultation would be carried out before any decision is made.

Councillors expressed concerns about increased traffic and parking problems if the scheme went ahead.
