Littleheath Garden Centre welcomed the start of spring with a special charity event.

The family-run centre was supporting the annual Garden Re-Leaf Day, when the gardening industry raises money for Greenfingers, a small charity which creates magical gardens for children’s hospices around the UK.

Littleheath had organised a Garden in a Tray competition for youngsters, with all entrants given a free starter kit donated by Gardman to make their own miniature garden.

The gardens were displayed in the centre and judged by Coun Janice Boswell, Bromsgrove Civic Head.

First prize winner Ben, aged two, received a garden goodie bag worth £60, while runner-up Jack aged four got a goodie bag worth £35. Every entrant received a collection of seeds.

Customers took the opportunity to consult expert “Plant Doctor” Andy Merrick from Farplants, while money was raised from generous donations and a raffle with plants and goods donated by Bransfords and Farplants.

Liz Fraser from Littleheath said, “Every penny helps.Thank you to all our customers who helped to make a difference for children’s hospices.”
