Withybed celebrates summer

Withybed folk

The little hamlet of Withybed Green celebrated its fifth Withyfest on June 29, writes Mary Green.

It was a bit risky choosing Glastonbury weekend, but the weather on the Sunday was glorious.

In the morning the children had a treasure hunt and then everyone joined in making a giant collage with spaces for faces!

The main feature of the day was the bring-and-share lunch which featured Kate’s super samosas, Neil’s fabulous flapjacks and John’s banana curry, among other delights.

We had some newly-moved in residents, and a new baby, George, the latest Withybedder to join us.

The Fincham family entertained us with music and song, and people were photographed with their heads through the collage.

Jennifer gave us a piano recital, lovely calming music for the afternoon, and a few of us were still able to celebrate in the Crown in the evening!

Thanks especially to Jan and Paul for their garden, the hub of events with the field wet after the weekend rains.

We even had some new Withybed Poets in the Withybed limerick game.

As always, the day was set among the lovely gardens of Withybed, which will be open again next year.
