Chemical solution

Keith’s problem is a chafer grub. They are a larvae that live a couple of inches under the turf and live off the roots; then the rooks, crows, magpies, foxes and badgers feed off the grub which is very high in protein.
Unfortunately Keith’s lawn has gone too far – normally you can keep on top of it by scarifying and aerating in the autumn and rolling in the spring. I think he’ll need to go down the chemical route, using a biological control called Nemasys.
This has to be applied August to October and will infect the grub and kill it off. Or you can use a pesticide: Provado lawn grub killer, applied in May to June.
