‘Golden promises’ forgotten

The October Village View asked what our villages will look like in 20 years. As a long-term resident of Cofton Hackett, I can quite sadly say that what was a pleasant place to live is sadly not any more, and has what I can only describe as a over-built Lego extension on to the original Cofton.

I also note Sophie Garner’s letter about Groveley Lane traffic calming. . . this has been a thorn in many people’s sides, but Peter McDonald has actually done a lot in his time.

A lot of people, including the parish and district councils, spent far too much time listening to St Modwen’s golden promises; I see now that a lot of the promises have been forgotten.

The village hall farce has been going on for years, as did the traffic-calming scheme – this in fact now draws cars closer together, and I agree the speed limit is not adhered to.

It saddens me to say that not even 20 years from now, Cofton will fall into Birmingham’s hands and even more of its countryside will go. Just drive towards Cofton from Longbridge; it’s a mass sprawl that I think will spread towards Barnt Green and Alvechurch.
