So, who decides what is ‘sympathetic’?

Posted on April 30 2005 at 3:37:40

I read comments made in the Redditch Advertiser in early April regarding English Heritage’s insistence that plans and changes to be made to the Lawns Residential Home in Alvechurch “be sympathetic to the existing building, to the original design and structure”.

Surely their credibility in this field is most questionable, for not many yards away you will see changes they allowed in St Laurence churchyard and these could not have been any further from “sympathetic”. It is a building known as The Ark.

It is this new building, “supported by English Heritage”, that obscures the north side views of the beautiful church and because of this building there are others who have had their views of St Laurence Church taken away totally.

The Alvechurch community are shocked by what has been allowed here.
