The right turn for roundabout

Posted on March 06 2011 at 8:37:58

I work and Iive close to the roundabout at the Tanyard Lane and Red Lion Street junction in Alvechurch. I see from The Village magazine (Mini island set for U-turn, March 2011) that plans are afoot to remove it.

It is true that there are many, many near misses there – we hear horns being sounded several times a day.

However, we feel that if it were removed it would be very difficult to pull out of Tanyard Lane at busy times and traffic speeds would increase here.

I don’t think there’s much doubt about that.

So, to improve the situation at low cost, how about making the roundabout more prominent? It could be painted white all over instead of just the middle.

The signage for the roundabout could be more prominent – signs could be larger or there could be more of them in some “Highways approved” way.

These are cheaper options than taking it out, I’m sure.
