Views from the Past

Cornish skies

Village reader Dr SB Vohra, of Cofton Hackett, sent us some atmospheric photos from a trip to Cornwall.

Athelstan should be celebrated and not misspelled
Posted on May 28 2015 at 12:29:54

Of course the council should correct its misspelling of Althestan Close in Alvechurch (“Street name slip-up”, The Village April 2015).

The lynx effect
Posted on May 28 2015 at 12:28:54

I think I have just seen a lynx in your village. I have just returned from a stag do (I stopped drinking last night, so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t the alcohol) for which we rented a canal boat and had an absolutely incredible time.

Generosity helps Nepal
Posted on May 28 2015 at 12:13:54

I’d like to thank all those who gave so generously to the collection for the Nepal Earthquake Disaster Appeal, organised by the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire.

‘Bronx’, ‘snobs’ . . . what next?
Posted on May 28 2015 at 12:10:54

I refer to the letter from Neil Mortiss about labelling Redditch “the Bronx” (Village Views May 2015).

A superb effort
Posted on May 28 2015 at 12:09:54

Alvechurch and Hopwood Cricket Club were honoured to host Finlay Church’s world record for a continuous line of teddy bears on Sunday May 3rd.

Who said politics is boring? At last, two of our villages were given the opportunity on May 7 to vote for someone standing not for a political party, but just for them. And boy, did they grasp the chance!

Park party poopers

I would just like to congratulate everyone who organised the Alvechurch Picnic in the Park.

Pavements are for people
Posted on May 28 2015 at 11:34:54

I’ve been minded to write because I run along Barnt Green Road a couple of times a week, and there are often vehicles parked obstructing the pavement.

Speed fears
Posted on May 28 2015 at 11:32:54

It was with great interest that I read the comment regarding drivers speeding in the Barnt Green area (Village Views, May 2015).

Looking for an answer
Posted on May 28 2015 at 12:33:54

I was very disappointed that no one on the panel at the pre-election forum at Alvechurch Baptist Church gave a straight answer to my question – that only English students have to pay the extortionate fees while the Welsh and Scottish students pay nothing; the same goes for prescription charges.
