Flower Club’s coffee morning

General Events

Rowney Green Flower Club invites you to a coffee morning at the Village Hall, Rowney Green on Mon August 28 from 10.30am–12.30pm.

There will be the usual Bring ‘n’ Buy, a raffle, a demonstration of flower arranging (raffled at the end), and an opportunity to make a small arrangement for yourself! The club also hopes to have cakes to sell.

The club usually meets at Rowney Green Village Hall on the 4th Thurs of the month at 7.45pm.


Big Healthy Lunch

Theatre

Big Healthy Lunch at Cofton Park on Sunday July 9, 11am-3pm. Bring food to share, a blanket, and join this special “get together” with a healthy and active twist.

Sporty fun from Sport Birmingham, wildlife activities from RSPB, an eco-craft area provided by Birmingham Playcare Network, and more!

Bring your bikes for a big clean by Cycle South Brum and a quick check up from Dr Bike. Healthy snacks to buy from The Real Junk Food Project, or cycle for a smoothie on the smoothie bike, plus interactive sessions by Northfield Ecocentre.

Free event, supported by Birmingham City Council as part of the Move More Eat Well campaign.


The Barnt Green & Cofton Hackett Bake-Off

The Barnt Green & Cofton Hackett Bake-Off and Afternoon Tea takes place on August 6 at St Andrew’s Church, Barnt Green, 1.30–4.30pm.

Categories: Best Traditional Cake (Victoria Sponge, Carrot Cake, Lemon Drizzle); Best No-Bake Cake; Best Decorated Cake; Best Brownies; Best Cupcake; Under 11 (any cake or cupcakes); Age 12-17 (any cake or cupcakes).

Judging from 1.45–2.45pm – help eat the cakes later! All cakes must be dropped off between 12.30 and 1.30pm.

Invitation to business lunch

Alvechurch Baptist Church is to be decorated with a variety of Christmas Trees between December 11 and 18.

As part of the programme the organisers are holding a lunch for representatives of the village business community on Tues Dec 13 between 12noon and 1.30pm. 

There will be a chance to hear about the Parish Council’s Neighbourhood Plan and meet other business people from the village.

Finstall Flower & Veg Show

General Events

The annual Finstall Flower & Veg Show takes place this year on Sat Sep 3.

A fun day out is promised, with refreshments, stalls and games for all ages.

There are cups to be won in all Show categories, and a special cup for children. Schedules are being distributed around the village.


St George’s Day Teas

General Events

St George’s Day will be celebrated as usual with Teas at Alvechurch Village Hall on Sat April 23 from 2–4pm.

Alvechurch, Hopwood and Hillside@ Alvechurch WI members will serve tea, delicious cakes and scones and hope that families and friends from the area will join them.

This year there will also be a children’s fancy dress parade at 3pm, open to under-9s. Posters designed by local children for a competition will also be on display.


Pancake Afternoon

Alvechurch Baptist Church holds its annual Pancake Afternoon on Shrove Tuesday, which this year falls on Tues Feb 9.

Cheer up a gloomy day by calling in between 2.30 and 4.30pm for pancakes, tea and chat.

The WIs of Alvechurch, Hopwood, Beoley and Hillside@Alvechurch have joined forces to organise a celebration of St George’s Day.

On Thursday April 23, villagers are invited to attend Alvechurch Village Hall on Bear Hill from 2–4pm.

There will be tea, cakes and scones with jam and cream, made by the WIs.

Coffee and Raffle for charity

A Coffee Morning and Raffle in support of Cure Leukaemia takes place at Alvechurch Village Hall on Friday March 14, from 11am to 1pm.

BBC presenter Joanne Malin will be attending, and you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a cake for just £2.

Raffle prizes include donations from the Redditch branches of Tesco, Morrisons, Sainsburys, Muffin Break and Rio Hair Salon, plus donations from charity supporters.

There will also be a small selection of nearly-new children’s books and toys for sale.

Beer, sport and music at festival

General Events

A Beer Festival takes place at Five Ways Old Edwardians Sports Club (Ash Lane, Hopwood B48 7BD) from June 2–4.

It runs from noon to midnight on Sat and Mon, and noon to 10.30pm on Sun, with five guest ales to sample.

On Sunday there’s also a six-a-side cricket match plus fun and games for all the family, and why not bring some food and join in The Big Lunch from 11.30am? There will be stalls selling various items on Sunday – if you would like to reserve a space, ring Sue Hope on 07970 455990. 

Monday brings music from Second City Soul (1–2pm and 2.30–3.30pm). Hot and cold food is available all weekend, and the bar will be open as usual.


Weighbridge beer festival

Breakfast with Cyrille

Cyrille Regis

Midlands footie legend Cyrille Regis will be the speaker at the next Barnt Green and Lickey Churches Men’s Breakfast on Sat May 14.

Regis scored 87 goals in 238 appearances for West Bromwich Albion, was in Coventry’s FA Cup winning side in 1987, and had spells with Aston Villa and Wolves before retiring in 1996.

Cyrille became a Christian after the death of his former WBA team mate Laurie Cunningham in 1989, and will speak about his life, his career and his faith at the breakfast, which takes place at Kings Norton Golf Club.
