Celebrating world of melody

Music

The Orchestra of St John’s next concert takes place at 7.30pm on Sat Oct 14 at St John’s Church in Bromsgrove, and features a mouthwatering programme including Dvorak’s glorious 8th Symphony and Mendelssohn’s ever-popular overture, Fingal’s Cave.

The horn team also have their day with a performance of Schumann’s Konzertstück for four horns and orchestra.

The orchestra will also celebrate the world of melody with a UK première of outstanding songs for tenor and orchestra by Worcester-based composer Ian Venables.

His Venetian Songs will be sung by renowned Indian tenor Anando Mukerjee, accompanied by the orchestra, all under the direction of conductor Richard Jenkinson.

There will be a free pre-concert talk for ticket holders with Ian Venables, presented by chief music critic of The Birmingham Post, Christopher Morley.

Tickets £12 in advance from Artrix box office or http://www.artrix.co.uk, or £14 on the door. Accompanied children attend free of charge.
