Gareth Hodson

When the Christmas lights appear around our villages, we know the festive season has officially begun – and the man tasked with ensuring those lights keep twinkling safely is Gareth Hodson of GJH Electrical Services.

Gareth has installed the impressive Christmas lights in Barnt Green for the past two years, having been suggested for the role by his predecessor Trevor Tipper, whose business Gareth acquired upon Trevor’s retirement.

“There are going to be even more lights this year,” he reveals. “People may not realise that they are LED lights, which give a lovely glow without using much energy.”

He also puts up the Christmas lights for various local parishes including Lickey and Blackwell, Cofton Hackett and Hunnington, as well as maintaining the regular street lighting for Barnt Green and Clent Parish Councils.

These are just some of the regular contracts which Gareth has earned since setting up his own business six years ago – before that he spent a further six years working for E.ON Central Networks Energy Services (formerly MEB), having served his apprenticeship with a local electrical contractor.

GJH Electrical offers a full range of services for the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors, and Gareth says no job is too small – he will happily handle anything from changing a light fitting to rewiring a factory.

Domestic services include installations and repairs to showers and cookers, sockets and lighting, security alarms and telephone or TV points, and customers can request an emergency call-out 24 hours a day.

“We can also take care of any required electrical certification, such as carrying out wiring checks if you are moving to a new home,” adds Gareth. “It’s always a good idea to call in a registered professional, rather than attempting to deal with electrical problems by yourself.”

Meanwhile, in the commercial sector, GJH can provide Portable Appliance Testing (PAT), installation and maintenance of fire alarms and emergency lighting, power, telephone and data points, as well as carrying out installations for refurbishments and new-build projects. Industrial services include fault location and repairs and sub station inspections.

Gareth is based in Bromsgrove and works all over the Midlands area, but is also happy to travel further afield if required. Customers can give him a call or email for advice and a free quotation.

The team at GJH are qualified to the latest 17th Edition BS7671 wiring regulations and are registered with NAPIT (National Association of Professional Inspectors and Testers) for all domestic part P electrical installation work.

The firm is also a member of TrustMark, an accreditation which proves tradesmen are operating to government endorsed standards, and recently became a member of “The Best of Bromsgrove”.

The official switch-on of the Barnt Green Christmas lights takes place at 3.30pm on December 5 at the annual carol concert, so pop along and admire Gareth’s handiwork!
