January 1st is of course the time-honoured date on which to begin a New Year’s resolution – but in practice, it’s far from ideal.

It’s a bank holiday; it’s the day after the biggest party of the year; and the house is still full of Christmas goodies waiting to tempt us. So forget about January 1st – in fact, forget about January entirely and choose February as the month in which you’ll start afresh.

If you’re determined to get fit, you might opt for a personal trainer to get you really motivated – Inspiring Fitness offers you a personal health and fitness plan, nutritional advice and specialises in pre and post-natal excercise, while Andy Clossick’s ‘Fit for Life’ programme is ideal for those who would prefer to train in the comfort of their own home.

However, if you like the idea of meeting new people as you train, Gently Does It could be for you. The ladies-only gym provides a number of fitness classes as well as the vibro gym, and is even running a six-week Bootcamp this month.

Meanwhile, zumba is still proving very popular with its blend of aerobics and Latin dance moves, so if you fancy having a bit of a boogie as you work out, check out Wendy’s Zumba & Fitness Classes, now operating in a new location.

It’s important to ensure your basic health is good before embarking on a fitness regime, so if you are suffering from back, neck or joint pain, pop along to Arrowbank Chiropractors for a full consultation.

As well as health and fitness, looking good is also beneficial to our wellbeing –  the Elia Smile Centre offers modern pain-free dentistry to make you proud of your smile, while Eye Opticians provides a vast range of sexy eyewear (as worn by the cast of Hustle – see page 34 for details) to give you a whole new look.

A new Blackwell business can help you look and feel beautiful with a selection of treatments. Belle’s Beauty Box provides facials, waxing, spray tans and Shellac nails, and there are monthly special offers.

And after working hard in the gym, why not reward yourself by booking in for a bit of pampering and relaxation at Chessgrove Day Spa?

Finally, if you are on your own and looking to meet new people this year, you can make a new start at the Bromsgrove Phoenix NCDS&W (National Council for Divorced, Separated & Widowed), where there are new friends waiting to be met.
