Dress from La Couture

Our handy guide to the wide selection of wedding services in the Village area.

If you’re contemplating tying the knot in the near future, you’ll have realised that there’s an incredible amount of choice out there, from the dress to the venue to the flowers – and a good way to narrow down your options is to investigate the services on your doorstep.

In the village of Blakedown, La Couture Bridal Boutique is new to the scene, having opened just under a year ago.

In the chic French-style interior complete with crystal chandeliers and spacious fitting rooms, brides-to-be will discover unusual gowns by Ritva Westenius (British Bridal designer of the Year 2012), as well as Stephanie Allin, Alfred Sung, Charlotte Balbier and Gemy Couture.

Every appointment is tailored to suit each individual bride, and the friendly staff will help you find styles and shapes that suit you in a one-to-one personal appointment. With prices ranging from just under £1,000 to £4,000 and the option of flexible payment, La Couture is proud to be able to suit all needs.

Brides-to-be can get the most from their boutique experience by trying accessories and footwear once the gown is chosen – it is always easier to complete your bridal look when you are wearing your dress.

La Couture offers a range of beautiful handmade tiaras from Halo and Co including Rainbow, plus jewellery from award-winning Ivory and Co, ranging from vintage to contemporary. There are also shoes and bags to add the finishing touches to your dream look.

La Couture stocks the JLM Europe bridesmaid collection, which offers something very different from most dresses. The Occasions and Noir by Lazaro collections from New York are suitable for all shapes, sizes and ages, with a wide range of shades including graphite, taupe, blush and grape.

You’ll also discover some fabulous dresses at Ann Marie Bridal Studio in the centre of Bromsgrove, which prides itself on personal and friendly service and aims to make choosing your wedding dress a really memorable experience.

The boutique stocks many beautiful gowns by popular designers including Phoenix, Ronald Joyce, Victoria Jane, Romantica and MSModa, as well as a fine selection of bridesmaids’ dresses by D’Zage and Romantica.

So, once you’ve settled on the dress of your dreams, you will need some stunning and complementary jewellery to give the perfect finishing touch. R F Collyer of Rubery has been in the jewellery business since 1948, and offers a wide range of gold, silver and fashion jewellery to suit all budgets and tastes.

All members of the wedding party can find something to complete their outfits, and there’s also a selection of gift ideas such as pens and photo frames.

And if you’re thinking of wearing a vintage piece for your “something old”, remember that R F Collyer’s on-site workshop carries out repairs and alterations, plus pearl and bead rethreading.

It’s so important for a bride to feel beautiful and confident, whether that means sticking with traditional natural makeup or pulling out all the stops on the beauty front.

If you’re looking for a touch of glamour on your special day, pay a visit to Bliss Hair Therapy, the wedding hair and makeup specialists in Alvechurch.

With a free consultation, hair and makeup trials to find the perfect look for you, and a home visit on the day itself, getting ready will be stress-free!

You might choose to enhance your own hair with the popular Great Lengths premium hair extensions, made with 100 per cent human hair and lasting up to six months – and don’t forget that Bliss also offers a professional lash and brow bar in the salon.

You’ll also want your nails to look perfect, and Barnt Green-based mobile beauty service Beauticle offers some fantastic options including the ever-popular Calgel and Shellac varnish.

Expert beautician Dawn can also provide Minx nail fashion in all sorts of colours and patterns, plus Kooky and Trendy Nailwraps.

Meanwhile, a Sienna X spray tan from Beauticle will give a safe and natural golden glow, and an organic h.o.n.e.s.t. facial will make sure your skin is in top condition ahead of the big day.

We are lucky in this area to have so many wedding and reception venues that are as beautiful as the bride!

Historic Hillscourt, at the foot of the Lickey Hills, certainly fits the bill – the lovely grounds are just one of the attractions, along with the excellent catering, fully licensed bar and 55 en-suite bedrooms.

Hillscourt is licensed for civil ceremonies, and the happy couple can enjoy the complimentary bridal suite on the wedding night.

Another excellent local venue is Kings Norton Golf Club, a Grade II listed building set in beautiful parkland at Weatheroak.

The ballroom suite can hold up to 200 seated diners and has a large dance floor with private bar – the club also holds a civil wedding licence with a choice of three rooms for the ceremony.

You can see for yourself what the venue has to offer at its annual wedding fayre on October 20.

While the venues are attractive in their own right, you may still wish to add a few decorative touches of your own – and the most important of these are the flowers.

Oasis Flowers & Balloons, in Barnt Green, specialise in wedding flowers and offer a range of stunning designs from traditional arrangements to something a little bit different.

Of course, the family-run business can also create the bouquets and buttonholes, as well as providing balloons to match your colour scheme.

To complete the perfect day, how about some sophisticated background music from accomplished guitarist Stuart Toogood?

Playing live, without the aid of backing tapes, he recreates classic songs from an ever growing repertoire that includes Elton John, Sting, The Beatles, Robbie Williams, Coldplay and songs from modern musicals.

Stuart can play during the ceremony, welcome drinks or the wedding breakfast.
