Martin Wright welcomes the National Gardens Scheme back to Alvechurch for 2010.

Alvechurch will be once again be opening its gardens this year for the National Garden Scheme – proceeds of which all go towards various charities such as MacMillan Nurses and Marie Curie.

The event has been very popular and successful. In 2008 when the gardens last opened, more than £4,500 was raised. Currently, ten gardens plan to open this year and there is room for a few more if you would like to join this worthy event.

Are you a keen gardener, or proud of what you’ve achieved with your plot? Maybe there’s a feature you are particularly pleased with or perhaps you’ve thought you would like to share your garden with others? Now’s your chance! You will find it a very enjoyable experience with visitors being very appreciative of all your efforts. It’s a chance to pass on tips and to get back useful information as well.

The gardens will be open on two Sundays during the summer – June 6 and July 11. Most of the organisation will have been done for you. So if you think you might like to join this community event on one or both dates, contact Martin or Janet Wright for further information on 0121 445 4335 or 07845579410 – or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

If you are not able to open your garden but would like to contribute to this charity event why not offer your services to help with the car park or with serving teas?

If opening your garden is out of the question then please put the dates in your diary so you don’t forget to support the event by coming along to visit Alvechurch Open Gardens and helping to make 2010 another successful year. We will be open whatever the weather!

Other gardens opening locally under the NGS are Marlbrook Gardens on Sundays May 30, July 18, August 15 (1.30-5.30) and Sat September 11 (6.30-10), Pump Cottage on June 18,19 and 21 and Withybed Gardens on June 20 (2-6pm).
