Cover July/August 2004

The cover of our combined July and August issue from 2004 showed a group of children from Tardebigge First School enjoying a canal boat trip from Alvechurch Marina to school, dressed in period costumes as part of a class project.

IN THE NEWS: It was feared that 12 acres of land around the Barnt Green Inn had become a planning “black hole”, neither clear-cut green belt nor earmarked for future development, after a High Court decision went against Bromsgrove District Council. 

Elsewhere, Alvechurch Parish Council was asking residents for their views on the future of the former schools site in the village.

And a reader had written a letter complaining about pavement parking. . .

Cricket team

Sue and Daley

* Alvechurch Middle School had had a very successful sporting year, finishing as Bromsgrove District Champions in athletics, netball, cricket, football and tag rugby. Pictured above is the Year 5 cricket team.

* Sue Biggs of Cofton Hackett enjoyed a training session with Olympic gold-medallist Daley Thompson, an ambassador for Barnado’s, before running the London Marathon in support of the charity and raising £1,700.
