Cover April 2005

Our April 2005 cover showed Jody Bray modelling an outfit from Barnt Green boutique Joolz, in a charity fashion show organised by Bromsgrove District Council for International Women’s Day.

More photos from the annual event were inside.

IN THE NEWS:
Lickey End residents were being urged to sign a road safety petition after a six-year-old was almost knocked down outside the school.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited Bordsesley bypass now looked likely to happen, according to county councillor George Lord.

The £10 million scheme would ease “rat-run” traffic through Alvechurch, Barnt Green and Cofton.

Coach festival

* The Coach & Horses Inn at Weatheroak held a Spring Beer Festival featuring Black Country ales, served up by licensee Phil Meades (centre) and Toby and Dave Smith of Weatheroak Brewery.

Meanwhile, the pub’s oldest regular, Bill Dursley, enjoyed a festival pint on his 97th birthday.

Ted

* Fifty-three years after he served in the 1st Royal Dragoons during the Suez Crisis, Alvechurch resident Ted Figgett (pictured here as a young soldier) had finally received his Canal Zone medal.
