Cover Sept 2005

Our September 2005 cover showed the controversial £1 million “Ark” building at St Laurence Church, Alvechurch, which was nearing completion.

IN THE NEWS:
Over in Rubery, another new church building – linking the Beacon Church Centre with its church hall and incorporating new facilities – was being celebrated.

Meanwhile, Parish Plans were nearing fruition in Alvechurch and Barnt Green, with residents invited to have their say on how their areas developed in the future.

Austin event

* Around 2,000 vehicles produced at Longbridge since 1905 were on display in Cofton Park, as visitors from far and wide marked the Austin Centenary Event.

Special guests included Sir Stirling Moss OBE, Bishop of Birmingham John Sentamu, and Tony Ball, father of singer Michael and former sales director at the factory.

Wheelers

* The intrepid Blackwell Wheelers cycling club (pictured on the Severn Bridge) undertook a two-day sponsored ride to Bath and back, raising funds as usual for Sargent Cancer Care, Edwards Trust and the Air Ambulance.
