Nov/Dec 2005 cover

We produced a combined November/December issue in 2005, so our annual “cover stars” image appeared a little earlier than usual!

IN THE NEWS:
Police had drafted in specialist “reassurance patrols” after an armed robbery at Blackwell Post Office and a Securicor van robbery outside Lloyds Bank in Barnt Green the following day.

Meanwhile, Roger Hollingworth, a former chairman of Alvechurch Parish Council, had been elected leader of Bromsgrove District Council. It was hoped that this would signal a better deal for villages in the area.

Veterans and pupils

* Youngsters from Alvechurch Middle School marked 60 years since the end of WWII with a visit to the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

They were accompanied by members of the Alvechurch Ex-Services Association (including Arthur Pearsall and Ron Jones, above), who had applied for a lottery grant to organise commemorative events.

Pumpkin

* Burcot hit the headlines when the second Great Burcot Pumpkin Light-Up was covered by BBC Midlands Today and ITV Central News.

The display of intricately-carved pumpkins was enjoyed by more than 500 people.
