Advice sought on housing plans

Lickey and Blackwell Parish Council is to seek advice on whether new housing plans for Cofton Hackett and Barnt Green have changed the affordable housing requirements in the parish.

A previous survey showed a “need” for no more than eight homes, but, before they looked at sites, the parish wanted to be sure.

Coun John Williams said:  “There is a need, but we need to reflect on whether there is a will.”

Coun Janet King said: “We have no social housing in this parish at all. There will always be an objection from somebody to housing being built next to them. I believe they will be well received by the people of Blackwell.”

Parish chairwoman Jill Harvey said: “We know it is going to be controversial. I don’t have your confidence that we are not going to meet antagonism.”

She added: “I am getting the feeling that in principle we are happy to consider the eight houses, but before we do that we should consider whether the plans for Barnt Green and Cofton Hackett have altered anything.

“I want us to be able to say we have done the research and are on solid ground and can argue for it.”
