African culture comes to Tardebigge
Posted on November 22 2011 at 3:18:54 0 comments

Pupils, teachers and friends of Tardebigge First School were treated to a wonderful day and evening of African friendship and culture when the Pearl of Africa Children’s Choir called in as part of their UK tour.
The internationally-acclaimed choir, from Uganda, introduced the children to traditional African music, dance, games and crafts, before some of the members were taken to pupils’ homes for tea.
In the evening, the choir gave a concert in Tardebigge church, enthralling the audience with their a capella singing, drumming and dancing, and sold handmade African crafts.
The annual tour, which sees the choir spend two months giving workshops and concerts at schools across the UK, raises much-needed funds for Pearl of Africa Child Care in Uganda, with the money helping to keep the children, many of whom are orphans, in education and shelter for another year.
The whole event at Tardebigge raised a fantastic £920.
