Baabaara’s big trip

Bleating on a Prayer

If you’ve recently seen a car dressed like a sheep around the Village area, you’re not going mad – it’s just Baabaara, a 1998 Daihatsu Sirion, fresh from her triumph at Monte Carlo Or Bust 2014.

Barnt Green resident Sam Williams and his pals Luka Husbands, Alex McCondichie, Leigh Brecknell and Sam Ward, decided to enter the famous rally to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.

The challenge, based on the film of the same name, is to buy a car for £250 and drive it to Monaco within three days.

Around 80 cars competed in the event, each with their own theme. The “Bleating on a Prayer” team, dressed as shepherds and lambs, drove 1,300 miles via France, Switzerland and Italy, with supporters following their progress on Facebook.

Despite the organisers’ opinion that she was “the only car that would definitely not make it up the St Bernard Pass”, Baabaara not only got to Monte Carlo, raising £556 for the charity, but she also made it back home – a rarity for most entrants.
