Bottle pledge dug up at P.O.

When bricklayer Josh Taylor saw something glinting as a digger cleared the ground at a building site in Blackwell, he realised it was a bottle.
Josh managed to retrieve it before it was smashed into the earth and could make out through the dirt that there was something inside.

“It was a really old Pepsi bottle, but unfortunately we couldn’t get at the piece of paper inside without breaking the bottle,” explained Josh, of Barnt Green, who was working on the site beside Blackwell Post Office.
But the real surprise was the message contained within. As can be seen on the picture, the bottle was buried by Peter and Robert Frizzell, presumably brothers, to mark the demise of deposits on returnable bottles at Blackwell Post Office in 1973 (AD!)
They even offered a reward, in the very new currency of the day, of 50p for anyone returning the bottle. Unfortunately for Josh that ran out 11 years ago. . . oh, and the bottle is in pieces.
But now he – and The Village – would be interested to know if the Frizzells are still in the area to see if they can remember burying the message. Call us on 0121 445 6757 if you can help.
