Double yellows for Alvechurch schools

DOUBLE YELLOW lines are to be painted outside the schools in Alvechurch to stop dangerous parking, the parish council heard.
County councillor June Griffiths told the meeting: “It looks as if we are going to put some double yellow lines by the schools entrance.
“I have agreed to it and I am hoping it will solve some of the problems.
“I’m sure the village will be up in arms, but there is a concern about the parking because of the danger to children.”
Coun Griffiths also said she had been in touch with the schools about the possibility of using some her county discretionary funding to start a walking bus scheme, but there had been little interest.
“The parents are not very keen to take that up,” she explained. “It does seem a shame because there are a lot of children in the village who could quite easily walk together in a group and enjoy it.”
She also said the county had agreed to resurface The Holloway, between Rowney Green and Alvechurch, in the next financial year.
