Exploring the English language
Posted on February 27 2017 at 2:47:54
WORDS, the Bromsgrove group that promotes interest in the written and spoken word, presents an array of intriguing events in 2017.
The group has already had a talk from award-winning novelist Jonathan Coe, and next up is Daljit Nagra, BBC Radio 4’s poet in residence, on April 19. Daljit’s work explores the idealism and reality of multicultural Britain with wit, intelligence and a sense of mischief.
Then on June 11 there’s a return visit from David Crystal, the foremost writer and lecturer on the English language with more than 100 books to his name.
September 24 brings journalist and writer Lucy Mangan, a Guardian columnist whose writing style is both feminist and humorous.
Finally on November 12 it’s Maureen Bell, leading book historian and lecturer. Aided by “a heap of old books”, she will investigate readers across the centuries: who was reading what, when, where and how?
All talks take place in The Studio at Artrix at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £15 per event (students/under-16s £7.50) and are available from the Artrix box office on 01527 577330 or http://www.artrix.co.uk
