Finstall Olympic hope Jess Varnish has pedalled into the record books with her sprint partner Victoria Pendleton at the Track Cycling World Cup.
They beat the previously invincible Australian pair in the team sprint to win Gold with a world record time of 32.754 at the London Velodrome.
Former Bromsgrove South pupil Jess, aged 21, cycled the fastest first lap of her life while her mentor, Pendleton, produced the quickest finishing lap of her career.
In the earlier rounds of the contest the Australians had beaten their own world record team while the British girls had broken through the 33 second barrier for the first time.
A coachload of Jess’s family and friends had travelled to London to add to the “wall of nopise” supporting the British team.
