Finstall in bloom

Posted on September 15 2009 at 3:26:56

Late summer sunshine contributed to the success of Finstall’s annual Flower Show at Finstall Village Hall last month.

The show is primarily for fruit, flowers and vegetables, but there are also classes for baking, jam, artwork, photography, handicrafts, floral art, and several classes for children. Trophies are always on offer, and this year entrants could also win vouchers donated by Fresh@Burcot Garden Centre.

Every year the organisers try to vary the non-produce classes to maintain interest and offer something different for visitors to see, and on this occasion there was extra entertainment in the afternoon – a dance display from Cast Off,  the Appalachian dance group who use the hall to practice.

The show itself was followed by the usual produce auction,  before the afternoon concluded with a raffle. All money raised goes towards the upkeep of the hall, such as the recent refurbishment of the kitchen.

Show Committee Chairman Steven Godber and Village Hall Management Chairman Rosemarie Ryan thanked everyone who attended.
